Tribute to Get Crazy, Pt. 2: A Drummer Named Toad

In this scene from Get Crazy, John Densmore, playing a drummer named Toad, performs a rather wild drum solo.

Now, I know what you're thinking: "Wait a minute. John Densmore? As in The Doors' John Densmore? But Gene, I thought you hated the Doors! Is this the end of all that mankind holds dear??"

OK, cool your jets there, Chauncey. Yes, he did play drums for that....group. But I believe in giving credit where credit is due. This is a hilarious performance, possibly the funniest drum solo ever.

So sit back (not too far back; it's only 40 seconds long) and enjoy this clip.

  1. Hey Robb,

How's it going? Nice to hear from you.

To answer your question, it's unfortunately available only on used VHS tapes. But I'm going to try to put up at least a few more snippets from the film on the site soon.

Say hello to everyone. We hope to make it there again sometime.

PS. Both me and Kate, for the record, were routing for the Packers this year (a dangerous thing to admit in New York City). Maybe next year.

  2. Kia ora Gene,
How cool to see a reference to this movie pop up. I have hazy memories going through my head - as a young, long ago, dope addled 20 something coming across this movie on my parents cable tv. I laughed my ass off. It was fantastic. How can I get hold of it? Be cool.

  5. Best thing he ever did besides getting away from that Toad King or whatever he called himself. Jeez, what an overbloated buncha carnival music that was...glad it didn't age well so that its stupidity is less present on the American landscape. Of course, it only made room for other stupidity, but in this case I think it's a fair trade.
